Committees and Caucuses

The Hopkins AAUP chapter relies on the different committees to undertake the various aspects of organizing and to ensure that we serve all faculty and scholars at Hopkins.

Caucuses represent specifically focused spaces that serve specific populations, interests, or divisions, and help make sure that AAUP is present and responsive to the various and diverse needs of our community.

  • Executive Committee

The executive committee consists of the elected officers of the chapter, the immediate past president, and two members elected at large. The executive committee is responsible for the chapter's continuing effective presence at the institution, keeping all positions on the executive committee filled as vacancies occur.

  • Membership Committee

Expanding our membership and making sure all our members are represented are cornerstones of the Chapter.

The Membership Committee is responsible for:

    1. expanding the AAUP membership on campus,

    2. ensuring that the members‘ concerns and voices are represented, and

    3. representing different sectors and divisions around the university.

The committee works on events, initiatives, and other activities that are meant to expand the chapter’s reach.

The committee members act as liaisons with different schools and divisions to help spread the word, reflect faculty concerns, and act as AAUP representatives.

  • Strategy Committee

At this crucial moment, we are facing multiple serious and urgent challenges. We need to act deliberately and effectively to meet these challenges and ensure the independence and strength of our communities.

The Strategy Committee works to prepare plans of action and to set the chapter’s short-, medium-, and long-term strategies. The Committee relies on surveys, and input from members and other committees to plan different modes of action, and clarify the Chapter’s positions, strengths, weaknesses, challenges, and opportunities.

The committee will start meeting immediately to prepare the Chapter’s plan for the summer and work on our overall strategy. After that, the Committee will meet once a month and will work on preparing the Chapter’s 3-5 year Strategic Plan, which will be then submitted to the membership for input and vote.

  • Committee on Mentorship, Professionalization and Wellbeing

A key goal of the Hopkins AAUP chapter is to ensure that the Chapter is a home to all its members—not only a resource at times of stress and crisis but also a place to create connections, grow, and find support in various aspects of life.

The Committee on Professionalization, Mentorship, and Wellbeing works to plan initiatives and events that support faculty’s professional development, offer them mentorship and support opportunities, and also create spaces for activities, including sporting events, art, and recreation.

We will work together to make sure we can provide the help and support our members need.

  • Resources and Advocacy Committee

The Resources and Advocacy Committee is responsible for curating different resources (legal, professional, financial, etc) that faculty can use when needed. These resources will include legal support in relation to visas and advice in relation to professional and contract issues. The committee will also hold regular webinars and information sessions to provide faculty with the information they need.

The Committee is also responsible for direct advocacy on behalf of faculty regarding any issues that migth affect their work at Hopkins.

Let’s work together.
