How to join Hopkins AAUP

Just join the national organization and select Johns Hopkins as your institution to join our chapter.

We do not receive immediate notification that you joined. So, please fill out this form so we can add you to our contact list.

Eligibility

Membership is open to all current and retired faculty members, regardless of tenure status, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and staff members.

Dues

The National AAUP annual dues are based on a sliding scale, determined by self-reported income. Currently that ranges from $78 annually ($6.50 per Month) to $345 annually ($28.75 per Month). As with any income-based tiers, the sliding scale does not account for individual responsibility, living expenses, or how the same income can result in significantly different financial capacities. We encourage you to choose and pay what you can, based on your actual, experienced income.

Why Join?

Across the country, institutions of higher education, faculty, and staff are under attack. Our ability to research, teach, and conduct our academic work is threatened by a hostile political environment and by economic instability. International faculty and students are facing threats of deportation and visa revocation, contingent and tenure-track faculty are confronting the burdens of institutional austerity, political pressures are threatening all the gains made on issues related to equity and diversity, and federal funding cuts are causing termination of positions and research projects and forcing changes into what we can teach and research.

At the same time, the last two decades have witnessed slow but consistent erosion of shared governance principles across American higher education and the increasing economic precarity of the professoriate. These trends will only intensify under current threats and challenges.

No one person can face these challenges alone. We believe that, as a collective, we can chart a new way forward and build a different future!

Joining Hopkins AAUP will give you access to our committees, working groups, shared resources, connections, and happy hours! It will allow the chapter to grow and become more capable of defending our rights and building our shared future.

AAUP membership also includes other benefits, including discounts and programs, access to the expertise of AAUP staff, members, and leaders, and access to research, publications, toolkits, and webinars on defending academic freedom, ensuring economic security, and advancing faculty governance for all faculty. AAUP membership also comes with a subscription to Academe magazine. Additional AFT benefits can be found here.
