Dear colleagues,

We would like to remind you that Hopkins AAUP is hosting a town hall on Monday, July 21st, at 10:00 a.m. to discuss OIE policies related to Title VI.

AAUP Townhall on new Title VI policies:

When: Monday, July 21st, 2025; 10:00 am EDT (add it to your calendar)

Where: Over Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86117753545

Please fill out this form to RSVP and share anonymous questions or comments. (RSVP is not required to attend)

Over the past week or so, we’ve had fruitful conversations with our colleagues at the Provost's Office, and helpful consultations with our partners at ACLU Maryland and National AAUP. In addition, faculty across campus continue to email information, observations, and questions. We are eager to share what we have learned with you and to discuss the Chapter’s plans.

During the town hall, we will discuss the following:

  1. Background: What and why? The importance of Title VI for an equitable university environment, the recent email from OIE, and the concerns that faculty have.

  2. JHU Agreement with the Office of Civil Rights: We will share and discuss the voluntary agreement that JHU signed (in March) with the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR), including the university’s obligations under this agreement and its potential impact on our community.

  3. Recommendations and Best Practices as suggested by the Chapter, AAUP-National, and ACLU-MD.

  4. Communications and actions that the Chapter leadership has taken.

  5. Future plans and actions that the Chapter leadership is proposing.

  6. Comments and Questions from faculty.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday!

In solidarity!
Lisa, Ahmed, Siobhan, and Graham
